The First Appointment

February 4th 2011 @ 9am

My first appointment went great. I was nervous, excited, and so anxious to finally get my doctor's confirmation. But my mind raced with thoughts...What if they couldn't find anything? What if I really wasn't pregnant? What if something was wrong? My awesome doctor immediately gave me an ultrasound even though he said they usually do all the other boring stuff first. It seemed to be taking him awhile to find the baby, which made me even more nervous as I tried to look myself. Finally (seemed like an eternity but I'm sure it was really less than a minute) he showed my husband and I the tiny flickering heartbeat of our little bean and we were in awe. Baby measured 7 1/2 weeks and everything looked great!

The only bad part of the appointment was having to give five vials of blood. The nurse was really great but it felt like that needle was in my arm forever. As she was filling the the third tube Hubby said “wow how much do you have to take?” (Insert queasiness). It's not the little bit of pain that gets me, but I don't do well overall with blood and medical stuff.  I felt fine immediately after she was done and thought whew I winged this one. Nope, I sure didn't.  A minute later I was faint, hot, pale, and slightly dizzy. I was ready to pass out. The nurse quickly opened the windows (on a 30 degree morning) and brought me a coke and crackers. I thanked her a bunch for acting quickly for me. It took me five minutes or so but I regained myself and finally made it out to scheduling! I guess my body just can't handle all that. It's not the first time this has happened to me so I'm getting better at overcoming it faster. I just wish it wouldn't happen!  I feel like a wuss :)

Anyway... Here we are!
The happy soon to be parents :)

yeah! you're little bean is adorable!!! =) So happy for you both! You are about to start a wonderful new journey! Just FYI...they don't draw blood that often! You are over the big hump =) I'm a nurse but I still can't stand to have a shot or my blood drawn either so it's much better! The next time I had my blood drawn was around 25 weeks b/c I am RH negative and needed the rho gam shot. Hopefully you are not, so hopefully, no more blood work for you!!!

Good luck! I'm anxious to start seeing your belly grow!!!

Sounds like everything went great! And you have your first picture of your little bean! This is so exciting!!!

I've never had to give that much blood but I get the same way with needles! AW always teases me about it, but with just one needle I start to faint. I found that juice or sweet candy helps the most and the fastest!

Congrats again!

Great pictures!! And sorry about the lab draws. I don't sit when I have had them -- I'm always laying down on the bed. :)

Again, CONGRATULATIONS!! I knew it would only be a matter of time ;) Btw, I hate needles and one thing I had to learn to deal with was getting my blood taken...A LOT throughout my pregnancy! So be prepared to getting used to that :/ I can't wait to read more about your pregnancy journey!!

aww yayy! So cute :) I love that you took pictures. Don't worry you'll get used to how much blood they're always taking. At first I hated it and still do but eventually I was just like "all right get it over with." haha

I was the same way! When I got pregnant, I was like its not true, what if they can't find her blah blah! Up until I gave birth I was just like wow is this really happening! I even look at her sometimes and just can't imagine that little miracle came from me!

I almost fainted during that big blood draw during both my pregnancies, I think they are used to it. :) Isn't seeing the heartbeat exciting? Have you gotten to hear it yet? XO
